November 2016 -Personal Fulfillment during the Holiday Season

I wrote the following newsletter in November of 2006. It does not seem possible that it was ten years ago. Surprisingly, the distractions that we were feeling in 2006 are the same ones that many of us feel in 2016. These distractions might even be more intense today. It is my sincere hope that this message will motivate and inspire you to make a few small changes to ensure that you get more personal fulfillment during this current season of thanksgiving and joy.

***************************************************************************
Your inspirational quote for this season of Thanksgiving and joyous celebration is:

"Imagine life as a game in which you are juggling five balls in the air.  You name them - work, family, health, friends and spirit and you're keeping all these in the air.  You will soon understand that work is a rubber ball. If you drop it, it will bounce back. But the other four balls - family, health, friends and spirit are made of glass.  If you drop one of these, they will be irrevocably scuffed, marked, nicked, damaged or even shattered.  They will never be the same.  You must understand that and strive for balance in your life." From Brian Dyson, CEO of Coca Cola Enterprises from 1959-1994.

During this holiday season, ask yourself the following:
  1. What five projects at work can be delegated, delayed, shortened or negotiated?
  2. What holiday traditions do not give me any fulfillment?
  3. What new holiday traditions can I put in place that would be fulfilling and much less work?
  4. What is the most important thing about each of the four balls, family, health, friends and spirit?  What can I do to fully embrace each of these with the least amount of effort?
  5. If I had only one gift to give to every important person in my life and that gift was my words, what would I say to each of them?
  6. If I could take one day with my family and pretend that it was 1950 what would we do to amuse ourselves? (i.e. no electronic communication devices, no shopping malls, no electronic games and television, etc.)
  7. What would I write in a holiday greeting card to myself explaining the top five things that I like about myself?
If you were to act on your answers, what would that do to your fulfillment during this season of Thanksgiving and joyous celebration?  Congratulations, you have taken the first step to deriving results from within.
Sincerely,

Coach Vickie Bevenour
