December 2016 -Wishing you a very Happy Holiday Season!

It has been said that the secret to life is enjoying the passage of time. Time is our single most important personal asset. Each minute is only here for just that, a minute, and then it is gone forever.

This year, I have made the conscious personal decision to enjoy the passage of time. For me, that means to take the time to have experiences with the people that I actively choose to be with. One of the phrases that I use when working or visiting with people in my life is: "I am actively choosing to spend time with you."

In the same concept, my desire is to have experiences rather than gifts. For me this could be:
  • Spending the extra five minutes with a client to catch up on their lives.
  • Making the effort to visit a special family in my life and "just be" for a day.
  • Taking the extra time when a client is feeling pressured to sit back and give them space for reflection.
  • Cooking for my family and enjoying the food in an uninterrupted environment
  • Traveling with my husband and making memories all over the world
  • Having ice-cream with my 16-year-old nephews to catch up on their lives.
  • When I travel with friends, I always ask at the end of the trip, what was the best part. I have one friend who always answers in the same way...the comradery.
  • Walking into the office and hugging my Admin because she is the best in the world.
  • Making a point to visit with my 91-year-old parents at least once a week.

No doubt, it is hard to fit these experiences in. I am flying to visit family next week and a client asked me if he could text me while I was gone. I will admit that I hesitated for a minute and finally said no. I gave him an alternative coach contact and then explained that I was unplugging to be with my family. Being vigilant in my commitment to enjoy the passage of time does take work, and the outcome is worth it!

Thank you for reading my story, now on to you...

This year has flown by and we find ourselves at yet another Holiday season. The questions to ask yourself are:

  • Are you enjoying the passage of time?

The added activities of the Holiday season can sometimes make our lives seem like we are in overdrive. When that happens, simply stop and ask yourself:

  • What is really important here?
  • What can I do right now to more fully enjoy the passage of time?
  • What goals/resolutions/plans can I make for myself in the coming year to enjoy the passage of time?

Congratulations! You have taken the first step to unleashing your Inner Leader.
