Are You An Inspirational Leader?

What does it mean to inspire someone?

The dictionary definition of “to inspire” is: to influence, move or guide; to exert an influence on; to spur on; to draw forth or to bring out; to stimulate.

When was the last time that you actively tried to inspire someone? If you are a parent, you inspire your children everyday, whether actively or simply by your example. If you are a friend you inspire someone you care about during your numerous interactions.

What if you actively tried to inspire people with whom you work each and every day? What would that look like for you?

I recently had a discussion with a colleague on the words “inspiration” and “aspiration”. After much verbal volleying and sharing of ideas we finally agreed on the following:

Being an inspirational person is having or developing the ability to stimulate someone to action. The result of this stimulation is that the individual develops an internal desire (aspiration) to attain a goal, create something or perform an activity.

Every human interaction is an opportunity handed to YOU to stir that aspirational desire in others. What will you do today to be that catalyst to drive someone to action? YOU can make it happen by becoming aware and taking advantage of every opportunity.

Last month we discussed the value of a mentor. If you currently serve as a mentor to a colleague, how can you enhance your interactions with your mentee to serve as a true source of inspiration?

Congratulations you are well on your way to becoming an inspirational leader and deriving results from within.
