For Success in 2009, Ask Yourself Just One
Question.
Recently I read an article
about the specific moment in time when Oprah was
asked a question that stopped her in her tracks.
The question was asked, live on her show by film
critic, Gene Siskel and the question was:
What
do you know for sure?
Initially Oprah was caught
off guard and admits to taking two days to think
about the question afterward. The Oprah, who of
course does everything in a big way, went on to
ask the question to many celebrities and even
devoted much of an entire Oprah magazine issue to
the answers. Instead of reviewing the celebrity
answers, I suggest that you take a moment to
simply ask yourself:
What
do I know for sure?
Clearly this question
intrigued me and, like Oprah, I spent some time
pondering my response. Before we talk about any
resolutions for 2009, I would like to share my
answer with you.
One thing that I know
for sure is that we will never be in this moment
of time again.
In another moment, this current minute will
be gone and we can never have it back again.
Time is one of our most precious natural
resources and it passes .of this I am certain.
After such a remarkable year
in 2008, we are now at the start of a New Year,
2009. Instead
of making the traditional resolutions or even
making lists of this coming years goals and
objectives, I would like to suggest an alternative
action.
James Taylor sings a great
song which begins with the line the secret to
life is enjoying the passage of time. Suppose
your only goal for 2009 would be to simply enjoy
the passage of time?
Think of the ramifications of that.perhaps:
- You
could learn to use every minute wisely.
- You
could learn to enjoy the interactions with
others more.
- You
could learn to be more tolerant of difficult
situations
- You
could be more responsible with money.
- You
could take a moment to show your friendship.
- You
could take a moment to help someone in need.
- You
could take this precious moment to smile.
In short, the only thing that
we know for sure is that we will only have this
moment once in our lives.
Make the most of it.
Congratulations! You have learned that the
secret to life is enjoying the passage of time
and deriving
results from within.
If
you like the tip, let us know but more important,
share it with a friend or colleague. As always,
YOUR SUCCESS IS MY GREATEST PLEASURE.
