June 2005 RDW Newsletter - Who Is Your Hero?
Recently I attended a networking event in which there was a panel of successful business professionals sharing their stories. One of the
questions that the moderator asked them stopped me in my tracks. The question was "Who is your hero?"
For me, that question encapsulates or summarizes all of the behaviors that business professionals today are attempting to incorporate into their lives. One of Webster's definitions of the word hero is, "one that shows great courage." That then leads to the definition of the word courage, "mental or moral strength to venture, persevere and withstand danger, fear or difficulty. What the moderator was really asking is - who gives you the inspiration to do the right thing in the face of difficulty or adversity?
Each month, in this newsletter, I attach an action or activity to the
message. This month my request of you has three parts:
- Think about your heroes. Who is it that inspires you to do the right thing?
- Take out a piece of paper and write down, what it is about your hero that inspires you?
- I would love to share your stories in the next few issues of these newsletters. Please forward your thoughts about those who inspire your so that we can all learn from and be otivated by your heroes.
Throughout my coaching career, I have found that inspiration comes from many places and many faces. Sharing our foundation of courage to do the right thing in the face of difficulty, and, perhaps more importantly, when no one is looking, could be the greatest gift that you could give to the important people in your life; be they your children, your employees, your colleagues or your leaders. Congratulations, you are courageously on the road to deriving results from within.
If you like the tip, let us know but more important, share it with a friend or colleague. As always, YOUR SUCCESS IS MY GREATEST PLEASURE.
